- Depicted is a Bodhisattva - symbolizing boundless compassion, selflessness, and the vow to attain enlightenment not just for oneself but for the liberation of all beings. In Sri Lankan culture, Bodhisattvas like Avalokiteshvara and Maithri are revered in both Mahayana and Theravāda traditions, embodying the ideals of loving-kindness and serving as spiritual exemplars in art, devotion, and temple worship. This is a replica of an 18th-century artwork from the Dambulla cave temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla - a World Heritage Site in Sri Lanka.
